What I did on my summmer vacation...

Summer is over. Granted, it's still 100+ degrees here in Houston, Texas, so I may hear some arguments that the season is still in full effect. However, for us on The High Road we said good-bye to summer this past Sunday when Jordan started preparing for his second year of business school at Rice University.

It's interesting being married to a student. I get a little anxious when he is studying for a big test or creating a presentation. I, too, feel a sense of relief when the term or semester is over and all the grades have been tabulated. And to certain extent, I felt like I was on summer vacation! I have to admit, that has been my favorite "sympathy pain." Even though Jordan was interning at Chevron this summer and I was working normal hours there was a sense of irresponsibility in our house. We weren't in constant negotiations about who would pick up the dry cleaning, who would take the dog out or how we were going to stretch our money to the next month. We both had paychecks and more importantly, we both had TIME. It was liberating. We went out to dinner without checking the budget, we enjoyed an entire Sunday afternoon knowing that Jordan wouldn't have to retreat back to his study and attack a mountain of reading and we went on a couple of trips!

While I will miss the freedom summer brought I'm also looking forward to the next season (and not just because I'm ready to break out my fall clothes!). I'm excited to see what this year holds for Jordan as he steps into leadership positions at school. I'm excited to see what my job holds for me as I navigate a new company and learn about a particular industry. I'm excited to see how we have grown as a couple by how we will handle this school year differently now that we have a few hard lessons about communication and expectations under our belt.

So good-bye Summer 2010. You were good to us and we will miss you. Fall 2010 - we look forward to what you have in store for us, but fair warning: you have some pretty big flip-flops to fill. However, you could easily win me over with the promise of cooler weather and the chance to wear my boots soon!

Below are some photos so you can see how much fun we had this summer!

We went to Mexico to see our friends Jeff and Sissy get married! We had so much fun with our friends!

The happy couple!

It was so relaxing!

Nighttime walk on the beach

We had a great time at a Family Reunion at the lake. We participated in (and won!) The Amazing Race my mom set up. It was great fun and not just because we won. I did mention we won, right?

The Amazing Race... and we're off!

Hanging out at the house

Jordan's best friend since the third grade, Adam, came to town in June and we were able to have a belated celebration for his 30th birthday at REEF. It was a delicious meal for a wonderful celebration!

Happy Birthday Adam!

We love good food!

One year down, a lifetime to go! We celebrated our first anniversary on July 18! We went to Austin and had the best time visiting some of our favorite places there! We ate... a lot!

Mmm... the Salt Lick.

Jordan loves ribs!

Delicious dinner at Uchi

Jordan went to visit his other best friend, Matt, in Portland in July. Jordan loved Portland and spending time with Matt.

And to top it all off, we had a big birthday celebration for Jordan's 30th birthday! This event deserves a post all it's own and it's coming soon!
